Traffic accident with icy windows

(jd) A 40-year-old man from Spenge intended to leave a parking lot on the street Am Froschbach in the early hours of Monday (17.2.) morning. Due to the wintry temperatures, the windows of his VW were frozen shut and he initially cleared the ice from the front and side windows. However, when he tried to drive off, the windows were frozen again, restricting his visibility. He nevertheless set off in his vehicle and hit a 96-year-old female pedestrian with his VW. She fell to the ground as a result of the impact and was seriously injured. After receiving emergency medical treatment, she was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. In this context, Herford police would like to point out that windows must be completely cleared of ice before driving so that visibility is not restricted.
