(hd) From a police perspective, New Year's Eve in the district of Herford was quieter than in previous years. In the period between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., officers attended 89 incidents across the district. The local focus was on the towns of Bünde (24 call-outs) and Herford (39 call-outs). Most of the incidents involved small fires, damage to property, misconduct involving pyrotechnics and disputes. Fortunately, there were no physical altercations in connection with the New Year's Eve celebrations. There was only one case of violence against emergency services. In Bünde, a 32-year-old man displayed clearly aggressive behavior as a result of excessive alcohol consumption. He was to be taken into custody to prevent criminal offenses. He then kicked the police officers several times. The measure was enforced using coercive measures. Two police officers suffered minor injuries but remained fit for duty. The 32-year-old is now facing charges on suspicion of assault and resisting law enforcement officers. All in all, however, the Herford district police authority has drawn a positive balance. The people in the district of Herford celebrated the turn of the year peacefully for the most part. An increased police presence and the availability of police officers in public spaces contributed to this.
