(hd) On Friday afternoon (03.01.2025) at around 4:20 p.m., the driver of a BMW drove over a traffic island located on Mindener Straße in Herford near the junction with Alte Heerstraße. He damaged several traffic signs in the process. The driver drove away from the scene of the accident without paying any attention to the damage caused. As the BMW had also been significantly damaged by the collision, the front license plate of the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident. The damaged BMW was noticed a short time later in the neighboring district of Minden-Lübbecke. The vehicle was checked there by police officers. The connection with the hit-and-run in Herford was quickly established. A 43-year-old man was found to be in the vehicle. He was noticeably under the influence of alcohol. A blood sample was therefore ordered. The driver must now answer for several traffic offenses. Possible witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the Herford police on 05221 / 888-0.
